    THE EX

Formed in 1979, The Ex has developed over the years into a melting-pot of diverse musical styles: noise, rock, jazz, improvisation, and ethnic musics have been interweaved under one unique umbrella: “Ex-music”. Discordant, highly rhythmic guitars, the rolling, almost African drumming style, and the intense delivery of the often ironic lyrics give the music of The Ex its special character. So far, in almost 30 years, The Ex has played 1371 concerts all over Europe, North America and Africa, and released over 20 albums. Never pigeon-holed into one of pop music’s corny corners, The Ex is continuously in development, and always open for new ideas and collaborations with people of all kinds, people whose spirit inspires and appeals to the group. The main principle remains; to make music with heart and soul, out of reach of commercial trends or expectations.

And perhaps the key part is the delightful Kat on drums – she is the best drummer in the world. Still. I’ve seen The Ex so many times in the last 30 years and she has been unfailingly brilliant. There is no dull 4/4 here, for Kat is a rhythm machine. The combination of cowbells and woodblocks with her rolling, multi rhythmic approach is amazing, no song ever gets bogged down in the obvious but instead is unfailingly danceable; yet another key to The Ex.

  7. Coca-cola taste of freedom!

As it turned out, slogan of Coca-cola is quite realistic. In the German bunker, that is on the territory of The Netherlands since World War II, among old pictures, army and war  attribute there is small bottle of Coca-cola left by American liberators.  The bottle is kept as symbol of liberation, freedom and  rescue from the war.

  8. Women…Art…Night

During my first days of staying in The Netherlands I had a possibility to face such a phenomenon as Museum Night (The first museum night in The Hague. Museums, galleries and other cultural institutions open their doors and offer a special program.)

Knowing that The Netherlands full of creative people I was ready to see many nice works and even masterpieces, anyway I was surprised.

Despite the fact that the Netherlands is a country of equality, tolerance and emancipation, most of the works devoted to women. In Muzee Scheveningen (museum at the seacoast) I didn’t expect to see a whole room dedicated to female outfit, examples of women occupations from past.

In the hall of The Gemeentemuseum (municipal museum) we could meet live women-sculptures, so called “Dutch nymphs” who greeted visitors with a mysterious glance.

The Gemeentemuseum was full with works inspired by women: here you can see a nice sculpture of woman with a baby, there is a picture of painters wife, further on the whole collection of art presented by woman genitals. And why less man?

Moving on to the Photography museum one can see something similar: a variety of conceptions that connected with women lifestyle, appearance and age among some pictures of landscape and city life. I could see even man presented like a woman where artist points out life of transsexuals.

Museum night one more time showed me that woman has an important place as in the past so now.

Do you think these are small and not relevant things?

I believe, small things are full of big value and meaning.

  9. Is EU afraid of Moldovan women?

Strange things started to happen already in Moldova. After a complicated and bureaucratic procedure I have got visa. But there was a BUT: I could visit schengen countries, but not Denmark. That note seemed to me quite strange. After several days i had a nice talk with my friend who is leaving in Germany. She gave me a clue what this note may mean. Many people from EU and non-EU countries go to marry in Denmark; because it is easier way and documents are recognizable all over the Europe.

I decided to check information in Internet sources and I found a lot of curious and interesting things about marriage in Denmark. There is variety of agencies that help you prepare documents for an acceptable price. I have never think about European marriage before, so embassy gives a good tip.

    • Marriage in Denmark

Fast, legal, nonbureaucratic weddings in Denmark

A marriage in Denmark is fast, simple, non-bureaucratic and above all, economical.
Compared to a marriage in other countries, a wedding in Denmark is not complicated, especially for binational couples, or couples who simply want to marry fast.”

    • “Marriage in Denmark

The easy and fast alternative to a marriage in other countries.”

Now that is question in my head: Is EU afraid of Moldovan women?

  10. Moldova-where is it? And who is that woman?

Hello everybody and welcome to my “boilingblog”! My name is Tatiana and 1SeptemberI come from Moldova to The Netherlands as a participant in the project “BOILING SOCIETIES AND COOKING IDENTITIES”.

My country is situated in Eastern Europe, located between Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east and south. By origin I come from Balti city (situated in the northern part of the country) that is also called among Moldavians -“Russian city”. Most of people talk Russian language in my city, so do I. It can sound uncommonly, but still many people speak Russian in Moldova while official language in Moldova is Romanian.

Now I leave in the capital of Moldova –Chisinau for 8 years. The reason why I moved to the Chisinau is very simple - I come to study in Moldova State University and that was important step in my life. I got decent amount of knowledge in University, but still the passion for photography was following me since my youth. A strong will to do things that I like so much, inspired me to become a professional photographer. That serious occupation gave me possibility to be among young professionals in the project now. The project, at the same time, is a perfect chance to develop myself on a professional and personal way, to extend my network, to exchange knowledge in general.
